Worm reducers

Reducer worm — one of classes of mechanical reducers. Reducers are classified by type of mechanical transfer. The reducer is called worm by the form the worm gear which is in a reducer, transferring and transforming a torque. The screw which is the cornerstone of a worm gear is externally similar to a worm, from here and the name. The worm reducer can be with one or more mechanical planetary transfers.

In a worm reducer increase in a torque and reduction of angular speed of an output shaft happens due to transformation of the energy concluded in the high angular speed and a low torque on entrance to a shaft.

  • Not only worms, but also reducers of other types and classes can successfully apply the last plus, the exception is made by coaxial cylindrical modifications. It is impossible to miss from attention and the fact that the fact of the non-staff loading arising because of lack of the safety coupling can become the reason of failure of a reducer. To worms and the drives based on them treat shortcomings:

  • If to compare worm and cylindrical reducers, then the percent of efficiency of the first is much less than second. It is explained by increase in indicators of the transfer relations that is the reason of loss of energy. So, if the efficiency, for example, to the Ch-80 model is equal to 58%, then the percent of losses will make 42%;
  • Heating of a reducer which is a consequence of the above described factor acts as the following shortcoming.   • Regarding the description of advantages of a worm reducer the self-retardation question was raised, but this phenomenon stops being advantage in situations when it is important to rotate a shaft, not including directly reducer;
  • Restrictions of the transferred power. Experts do not recommend to use worm gears at indicators of transfer power over 60 kW. Certainly, It should be noted that the models calculated on higher rates of power a little, nevertheless, they are. As a rule, it is about globoidny models;
  • The side play of an output shaft is the phenomenon characteristic of one and all modifications of reducers. In a case with a worm gear this factor has property to increase in process of wear.

In some cases it is considered that the term of operation of a worm gear 10 times less than cylindrical. In practice it was confirmed that this remark is no more, than convention.
